Hi my name is Shannon Howard, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-MH at Ensō Mental Health. My journey into clinical counseling began with a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Washington in 1999, followed by a Master’s in Clinical Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado in 2009. With a solid foundation in clinical counseling and over a decade of experience, I specialize in supporting individuals through a range of issues, with a special focus on empowering women healing from trauma and those recovering from narcissistic abuse.
I understand that taking the first step towards therapy can be scary and filled with uncertainty. That’s why I prioritize creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel truly comfortable and heard. My approach is grounded in building a strong therapeutic relationship, which I believe is the most crucial element for effective counseling. I am dedicated to meeting you where you are and helping you find your strength to build a more fulfilling life.
Drawing on evidence-based techniques, including intensive training in DBT (to help you manage intense emotions and build effective relationships) and EMDR (a powerful method for processing and healing from past trauma), I will work with you to develop personalized strategies to:
-
Heal from past experiences and trauma
-
Establish healthy boundaries in your relationships and build healthier relationships
-
Effectively manage symptoms of depression, anxiety, personality disorders, grief, and other mental health concerns
-
Navigate life transitions with greater confidence
My diverse background, including experience with autistic children, the foster care system, and community mental health, has provided me with a broad perspective on the complexities of human experience, enriching my ability to support you in meeting your goals.
On a personal note, I am originally from South Dakota but enjoyed experiencing life in both Washington and Colorado. Moving back home has provided a wonderful place to raise my daughter in the same small, supportive community I was raised in. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, traveling, reading, and enjoying the beautiful outdoors in the Black Hills.
If you are ready to invest in yourself and begin your journey towards healing, growth, and a more empowered future, I invite you to connect with me at Ensō Mental Health. I would be honored to walk alongside you.
