Welcome! If you’re seeking support to navigate life’s challenges, strengthen your relationships, or grow personally, you’ve found a practice that deeply values your well-being. At Ensō Mental Health, we’ve intentionally cultivated a warm and supportive environment, not just for our clients, but for our dedicated team as well. This commitment to health and balance allows us to show up fully for you.

I’m JoAnna Prewitt, the founder of Ensō Mental Health. With a Master’s of Science Degree in Community Counseling (1999) and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Psychology (1995), I’ve spent years gaining diverse experience in the areas of adoption, parenting, doula work, and individual and group therapy. Since 2015, I’ve served the Black Hills community. I hold counseling licenses in South Dakota, Wyoming, and Colorado, allowing me to offer therapeutic care to clients in all three states.

I’m here to help you establish healthy boundaries, build self-confidence, improve your relationships, heal from trauma, and move towards a more fulfilling life. I draw upon a variety of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gottman Method-based couples therapy, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). My approach is always trauma-informed and grounded in your inherent strengths.

I have a particular passion for working with couples who are looking to improve their communication, navigate conflict more effectively, and deepen their connection. Witnessing the growth and renewed intimacy within a relationship is incredibly rewarding.

Beyond client work, I am also deeply committed to the growth and development of the next generation of therapists. As a South Dakota Board Approved Supervisor, I value the opportunity to provide high-quality clinical supervision. My aim is to cultivate strong, ethical, and highly skilled counselors who can offer exceptional care to their own clients. I believe that well-supported therapists create a ripple effect of positive change in the wider community.

On a personal note, I am married with 3 amazingly unique kids, of whom we are very proud. I find joy and balance in walking with our golden retriever, staying active, exploring new cultures through travel, and I’m an avid podcast listener. I firmly believe that prioritizing self-care and personal growth is essential for a balanced and healthy life.

I warmly invite you to experience the supportive and empowering environment of Ensō Mental Health. Let’s work together to help you navigate your path and live your best life!
