Welcome! If you’re seeking support to navigate life’s challenges, strengthen your relationships, or grow personally, you’ve found a practice that deeply values your well-being. At Ensō Mental Health, we’ve intentionally cultivated a warm and supportive environment, not just for our clients, but for our dedicated team as well. This commitment to health and balance allows us to show up fully for you.

I’m JoAnna Prewitt, the founder of Ensō Mental Health. With a Master’s of Science Degree in Community Counseling (1999) and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Psychology (1995), I’ve spent years gaining diverse experience in the areas of individual and couples therapy, adoption, parenting, and doula work.  I’ve served the Black Hills community since 2015 and hold counseling licenses in South Dakota, Wyoming, and Colorado, allowing me to offer therapeutic care to clients in all three states.

I founded Ensō Mental Health with a commitment to a core truth: The highest quality mental health care is delivered by well-supported professionals. I saw a trend in our field where skilled counselors were often expected to be overworked and underpaid in service to their clients. This pressure leads to burnout and job dissatisfaction, ultimately limiting the depth and thoroughness of care. Ensō was created to break this cycle, fostering an environment that is just as healthy for our staff as it is for our clients.

For our clients, this translates directly into the exceptional care you deserve. The Ensō approach, which is rooted in clinical competence and ethical integrity, is my commitment to you. When working with clients, I’m here to help you establish healthy boundaries, build self-confidence, improve your relationships, heal from trauma, and move towards a more fulfilling life. I draw upon a variety of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gottman Method-based couples therapy, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). My approach is always trauma-informed and grounded in your inherent strengths.

Beyond my clinical work, I am deeply committed to the growth and development of the next generation of therapists. As a South Dakota Board Approved Supervisor, I value the opportunity to provide high-quality clinical supervision, particularly grounded in a strengths-based approach. My aim is to cultivate strong, ethical, and highly skilled counselors who can offer exceptional care. I firmly believe that well-supported therapists create a ripple effect of positive change in the wider community.

On a personal note, I am married with 3 amazingly unique kids (two are now adults), of whom we are very proud. I find joy and balance in walking with our golden retriever, staying active, exploring new cultures through travel, and I’m an avid podcast listener. I firmly believe that prioritizing self-care and personal growth is essential for a balanced and healthy life.

I warmly invite you to experience the supportive and empowering environment of Ensō Mental Health. Let’s work together to help you navigate your path and live your best life!
